EAST AFRICA TEAM 2024

Meet the Team

  • Christina

I grew up in Costa Rica and lived in an area , a remote tropical jungle, where the people did not have a translation of the Bible in their own language (Bribri)

For 18 years, I learned what trusting God means when you are scared of the dark, large bugs, snakes, and flooding ( of which there were lots in that hot, humid region I lived in) I learned that God is in control! I called out to him when I was scared many times for peace, healing, and comfort.

Living in another country, different from where my parents had come from meant I rarely spent time with my extended family. My parents explained to me God’s word which says, “ And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. Matthew 19:29

I look forward to seeing God provide in the future as He has been there in the past and present.

  • Michael Dahlen

Hello! My name is Michael Dahlen, and I am the youngest of seven. I am 21 years old, and grew up going to SW Christian School for 13 years (K-12). I started attending the youth group at SWBIBLE in middle school, and rededicated my life to Christ in high school at a Summer Retreat!

I went on a 4 month trip to Central Asia in 2022 through SWBIBLE and since then have been looking for more missions opportunities.

Right now I work as a barista at a local coffee shop, looking for opportunities to share my faith, and I also recently accepted an SWYOUTH Worship Ministries internship.

I am looking forward to using the gifts God has given me to serve the global body of Christ on this trip!

  • Andrew Lau

Hello, my name is Andrew Lau. I am 18 years old and a senior at Southwest Christian School. My parents are global outreach workers and I spent the first 10 years of my life living in Niger, West Africa. We moved back to the U.S. in 2017 and have been here since. As I look toward college, I am praying and seeking God’s guidance for my future while I search for a field that I will enjoy and be able to serve the Lord with. In the meantime, I have an incredible opportunity to serve and be a blessing to other global outreach workers.

  • Crystal Gosselin

My name is Crystal Gosselin. I grew up in Saskatchewan, Canada. I first met Jesus in Calgary Alberta at a Billy Graham crusade when I was 4 years old. I have loved the Lord ever since that day.

Through the years, I have served in the church in children’s ministry, MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers), at homeless shelters, in prison ministry, and in a traveling singing group. But I had never been on a mission trip. Recently, I began volunteering at First Image and teaching art at Southwest Christian School. As I found my new rhythm in these activities, I asked God, “What do you want me to do next?” Almost immediately the opportunity to join this trip came in a text message. One of my favorite things to do is hold babies and work with children. When I heard that snuggling babies could be a way to minister to missionaries in the field, I knew God was calling me to go.

I look forward to loving on and supporting long term global outreach workers who dedicate their lives to bringing the gospel to unreached people groups.

  • Tim & Andrea

We are a husband and wife duo, dedicated to living our lives for Christ. By God’s mercy we both came to Christ at a young age, and as we have grown in our relationships with God, He has given us both the desire to use our lives to further His kingdom. Currently, that looks like Tim leading the Middle School ministry at Southwest Bible Church, leading the congregation in worship, and discipling some young men, and Andrea recently accepted a position as the receptionist at First Image’s Ava Health clinic in Beaverton, co-leads a Women’s Bible Study group, and serves on the production team or in the Preschool Class on Sunday mornings.

We are so thankful to be involved in ministry here at Southwest Bible Church, and are looking forward to encouraging those in ministry in East Africa. It is a blessing that God asks us to be a part of the work He is doing, and we are so excited to partner with our brothers and sisters who are working to reach unreached people groups.

In all that we do, may God be glorified. – Tim and Andrea

  • Zach Cook

Hello! My name is Zach Cook. I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and am a big fan of the natural beauty it has to offer, as well as the abundant coffee! In my free time you’ll probably find me outdoors exploring with friends. I love trying new things and new places which brought me to Washington for a year and then the East Coast before returning to the Beaverton area, where God has been growing me in so many ways through his Word and SW Bible Church.

I love sharing the Gospel and have enjoyed serving the Middle School and Young Adults groups at Sw Bible.

My plan is to serve God overseas, and I am excited to be a part the team going to Uzbekistan in August.

I’m really looking forward to serving and encouraging God’s church around the world on this trip to East Africa, and I am praying that God is glorified through it!

  • Becky

HI! I'm a wife to my husband, Cliff (aka Buster) and mom to four kids... Well, two were married last year, so now I have 6 wonderful children! When I'm not teaching Biology to 10th graders, or working as a part-time bookkeeper at SWBC, I occasionally help my husband clean our AirBnb in Corbett. I enjoy being in, photographing, and learning about nature (whale watching especially), snuggling our 5 cats (I know... that's a lot), pondering naturopathic remedies, watching Survivor with my daughter, going to my son's sporting events, and seeing how many plants I can cram in my house before my husband notices I have a problem.

Before my current employments, I worked as a nurse in the Cardiothoracic ICU at OHSU for a few years before switching things up and working as a hospice nurse while my husband went to nursing school in Klamath Falls. I homeschooled my kids for eleven years while our family built memories and community in Oregon, Hawaii and Arizona.

I have traveled to Malawi, Papua New Guinea, and East Africa (5 years ago with the last team) serving on various types of short-term global outreach teams. Since I was 5, I have had a heart to serve overseas and share the good news of what Christ did for me. As we raised a family, I came to understand "the field" is everywhere... in our home, our neighborhood, the grocery store, and in my jobs outside the home. While I have loved traveling and exploring new places, I have developed a love for apologetics and reasoning through the scriptures with people close to home. I enjoy attempting to help my kids, my students, and whoever God puts in my path, see who Christ is and how much He loves them.

That said, I am excited to go back to East Africa this year! It was such a blessing last time to minister to these faithful global outreach workers from around the world, to worship with them, to hear their stories, to play with their children, and to be encouraged by what God is doing around the world in some of the most difficult places on the planet for believers to live in.

Thank you for supporting our team and for praying for us and these amazing global outreach workers while we prepare to go!
