WHY COSTA RICA?

JUNE 14-22 2024

SWYOUTH is passionate about making Jesus known. We believe that Christians are called to proclaim the Gospel at home and around the world. For this reason, we are taking a team to San José, Costa Rica, where we will be going into a high school to share the Good News about Jesus. We will also be partnering with a local church to do evangelism. Paul and Linda Williams are helping to facilitate this outreach through relationships they developed during 25 years of ministry in the country. The Williams work with Wycliffe Bible Translators and helped to produce a New Testament for the Bribri people in southeastern Costa Rica.  They currently live in Tigard and continue to work with Wycliffe producing translation helps in Spanish.

Pray for Costa Rica

  • Boldness in sharing testimonies and clarity in Gospel proclamation

  • Soft hearts toward Jesus

Meet the Team

  • Paul and Linda Williams

In 1981, Paul and Linda were sent out from SW Bible to begin their assignment with Wycliffe Bible Translators among the Bribri people of Costa Rica. During their 25 years of ministry there, the Lord blessed them with five children and the completion of the Bribri New Testament. They returned to Oregon in 2006. In 2007 the print and audio versions of the Bribri New Testament were presented to the people. Paul continues to work for Wycliffe from Oregon helping to produce verse-by-verse translation guides in Spanish. These guides are being used by indigenous peoples in Latin America as they translate God’s Word into their own heart languages. This helps to speed the completion of Wycliffe’s vision to begin translation projects in the 1,900 languages in the world that still need them by 2025.

  • Abby Stoughton

Hi! My name is Abby Stoughton, and I am a senior at Southwest Christian School. I have grown up going to Southwest Bible Church, but my understanding of the gospel deeply grew during 8th grade. Since then I have had many opportunities to share my testimony, and the gospel, through my love of sports, leading worship in the youth group, and in my work environment. Through my love for Jesus and His people, God has put it on my heart to go to Costa Rica.

While making Jesus known is just as important in Beaverton as it is in Costa Rica, my prayer is that God will use this team, our testimonies, and our individual gifts to spread the good news to this part of the world. I am beyond thankful that God has allowed me this opportunity to go and serve Him.

  • Angeline Stephen

Hi my name is Angeline Stephen and I am a junior at Southwest Christian School. I was born in India and moved to Oregon when I was nine years old. I have been blessed to know God since a young age, but only started to take my faith seriously in sixth grade. My faith has only grown since coming to SW and my teachers, friends, family and youth leaders have all been instrumental in growing my faith. I am very thankful for the opportunity that God has given me to go to Costa Rica to spread the Gospel. I have never gotten this opportunity before so I am excited to see how God will use me.

  • Ava Mueller

Hi! My name is Ava Mueller. I am 18 years old and a current senior at Beaverton Academy of Science and Engineering. Aside from school, I love spending time with family and friends, painting with acrylics, and spending time outside in God’s beautiful creation.

Over the last year, God has been working in my heart and my life by teaching me how to trust and serve Him well. One of the ways he has called me to do this has been to help lead a club at my school where we meet every week to talk with people about Jesus. It has been such a blessing to see how God is working in my public school and in my own life by providing me the opportunities and courage to have conversations with people about Jesus.
